THE BLUE HOUSE

Type: 3 Room HDB BTO | Location: Dakota, Singapore | Home to: 2 Adults

Designer: Farrah Foo | Project Manager: Xi Wen

Meet this beautiful blue home from our client, Basil and Tracy, who wanted to create a dynamic space for hosting friends, family, and also build a cosy space to work at home. The home has a unique open concept floor plan, with the bedroom on the left directly connected to a big living room area and the open kitchen on the right.

The blue navy colours were chosen as the client wanted a home that feels special and distinctive from other BTO houses. However, they also didn’t want the house to look too dark, so they chose furniture with complementary ivory and brown colour palettes.

The Living and Dining Room

Our clients wanted a home that could host big gatherings and also have comfortable spaces to work from home.

The clients didn’t like the idea of having an office space, as they wanted to work freely whether in the living or dining room. They wanted a work-in-a-cafe kind of vibe, so we decided to place a mini coffee station at the backside, right before the dining room, improving the cafe-like ambience of both spaces altogether.

The Kitchen

The kitchen was designed to be as spacious as possible despite the limited space, as our clients often work from home and cook on a regular basis. Hence, we decided to hack away the service yard wall and merge its area with the kitchen.

To extend the space, we also created a wide peninsula countertop that connects directly to the foyer, and used open shelvings to enhance the sense of spaciousness. The wide countertop is also equipped with power points as the clients love to work there.

To make it feels brighter and airy, our designer chose to blend the navy blue with white palette instead of ivory, adding a bit of coastal sense in a Mediterranean styled kitchen.

The Bathroom and Powder Area

Having a powder room has always been a dream for Tracy, so our designer suggested modifying the second bathroom into a dry vanity area. She also suggested adding a storage behind the sink-to-ceiling mirror, so the clients can have additional spaces to put their facial products.

The mirror also covered the standard BTO window, elevating the common bathroom into a luxury hotel-like experience. For the original master bathroom, the clients decided to keep the design and tiles, as they are pretty decent.
