Minimally Eclectic
Using a pared-back approach when designing her dream home, Sutri does wonders in both creating space and adding warmth to her abode. Balancing a tactile approach to materials with an assorted collection of art and furnishings, she skirts the periphery of trends between modern eclecticism and contemporary timelessness.

She selected a minimalist style for her dream home, with touches of eclecticism sprinkled throughout it. With a plain backdrop, the pops of colours, selection of bold furniture and interesting elements adorn her house. Her apartment imbued with whimsy and romanticism is made entirely for liveability.
Material Palette
Through the layering of textures, earthy-toned patterns and neutral colour palette, Sutri cleverly fuses serene and eclecticism through a muted and grounding palette. Meanwhile, the furniture and decorative items have become the hero expression. The combination of the various colours and materials mirrors the diversity seen in nature and has created a playfully sophisticated refuge that is as practical as it is aesthetically beautiful. She has brought together an eclectic sense of colour and vitality, creating a home that epitomises an enviable urban retreat.
The Transformation
In terms of space planning, the allocation of communal, semi-private and private areas caters to interacting, working and resting activities. Sutri sets her sights on creating spacious shared living, dining and kitchen spaces. The hacking down of the wall separating the living room and Bedroom 3 enables the expansion of the communal area. Accentuating the home’s fluidity, large bi-fold doors allow the space to be opened up or closed off.
Allocating the private areas to the east side of the apartment, the placement of the sliding doors between the Study Room and Bedroom introduces an apparent separation of the working and resting quarters. The interior design of the Bedroom is minimal with little distractions for a good night’s rest.
She elected for all-cream perimeter walls, allowing natural light to spill deep into her house. Her spare and reductive aesthetic infused with the warmth of her nuanced material palette and assorted furnishings, and a carefully calibrated sense of space and light ensures beauty is omnipresent.
Making full use of the living room, Sutri intentionally placed various sofas facing different directions to segregate the space into two or more interaction areas. It allows for organic and natural social mingling among the guests. This approach transpired in intimate pockets of the home, optimal for relaxation and reflection, while the drapery filters natural light, creating a soft glow and dappled shadows. She also introduced cove lighting to soften the entire appearance of her apartment. The eclectic aesthetic of the living room balances warm and inviting minimal design with a curated art collection and furnishings.
Cream flooring tiles form the base throughout the apartment, creating a blank canvas for the assorted furniture to sing. The furnishings balance a classic and character-filled aesthetic - pairing statement furniture pieces and vintage ornaments with minimalist cabinetry, benchtops and tiling. An earthy colour palette of greens and browns play out nicely against the cream backdrop of the living spaces. The integrated custom storage cabinets near the entranceway, taking the form of dark wooden joinery, is lifted off the ground to enhance the light and open theme. Furthermore, the addition of LED lights below the cabinets accentuates the airy vibes. Sunlight streaming in through the curtains develops softer, textured surfaces, creating an interplay of shadow and light against the refined, elemental pieces.
The dining area introduces an additional social space within Sutri’s apartment. The transparent white-framed doors and display shelving elements add pockets for expression. The custom shelves allow her to exhibit the collection of furnishings she accumulated throughout the years. They give off a casual, welcoming vibe when guests enter the dining area. Eclectic furniture such as the dining table and chairs add character to the space without feeling kitschy or overdone.
