Branding Design by Studio Augment

An emerging coconut beverage brand, SuperCoco approached us to develop a fresh and calming shopfront. The bustling hub of the GR.ID Mall provides the appropriate design blueprint and first permanent space for the local F&B establishment. The carefully-tailored store design sits cohesively within the parameters of the mall’s iconic retail setting whilst creating a distinctive brand statement for this modern tiki concept bar.

The SuperCoco experience is about tantalising the taste buds and satisfying thirst through made-to-order coconut beverages. The local brand brings a slice of chill beach life to the hectic, humid streets of Singapore. Serving up a wide variety of concoctions of refreshing coconut blends, the design concept calls for a casual and relaxing environment for their customers to unwind in.

The authentic, tactile and youthful kiosk design captures the essence of a tiki-bar concept. It exudes a sense of calmness and playfulness for a temporary beach getaway. We brought different colours and layered textures together through a harmonious blend of simplicity and complexity via distinctive materials. We also sought to go above and beyond with the limited footprint, working to increase brand awareness and consumer engagement. The result was an immersive, vibrant space that fully embodies the brand and products.

Material Palette

Inspired by SuperCoco’s brand identity, we created a vibrant yet relaxing space through the use of natural wooden tones, pops of green and a careful selection of materials and textures. The choreography of materials includes the contrast between the wood and the ribbed glass, allowing light to pass through gently, resulting in a revitalised space. The ribbed glass pane that runs along the entire shop also borders up the area for subtle demarcation and privacy. Undeniably, the earthy material is a fantastic way to reconcile a laid-back tropical vibe with a modern sensibility. Lastly, we also played around with lighting for visual connectivity with the mall’s interior design.

Floor Plan

We approached the interior design from a spatial and material angle. The space segregates into four sub-zones: the ordering zone, preparation counters, collection point and cleaning areas. An ergonomic kitchen design enables efficient beverage concocting and organisation to minimise traffic. Additionally, the selection of durable materials results in a dynamic yet functional interior.

Main Features

One of the design features is the kiosk topped with a minimalist, modern “roof” supported by wooden columns. The columns further accentuate the tiki-bar concept while the “roof” doubles as a covering to conceal existing structures and electrical piping, maintaining an immaculate finish. The recessed lighting running parallel in the “roof” also provides a visual impact and adds dimension. Another feature includes a strong focus on key customer connection points throughout the store, such as the ‘Order’ and ‘Pick Up’ portals. These portals provide efficient way-finding and easy differentiation via contrasting colours.

Challenges

One of the bottlenecks we encountered was the dilemma our client faced regarding the style of her kiosk during the designing phase. Although it took a few iterations, our client finally gave her stamp of approval for the final concept. All in all, it was a smooth-sailing process with the actual kiosk not straying too far away from the rendered views, which is rare!
