F1 Hospitality Suites

Designer: Nadia and Kelly

In 2020, prolific F1 race promoter Singapore GP, invited BuildBuilt to take part in a pitch to conceptualise the interior experience of the premier hospitality suites at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. We are proud to have won the pitch, and was appointed interior design consultant for the race 2020/2021 - alas Covid19 descended onto the tracks and races were cancelled. With their permission, here’s what the interior experience would’ve been like!

“To create a distinctly local experience, while retaining an authentic international F1 event flavour.”

Taking inspiration from speakeasy bars and the history of F1, our designers aimed to re-create and transform the hospitality suites into an exclusive yet socially hospitable space. The overall interior concept anchored on creating a sleek yet cosy lounge environment where guests would socialise and enjoy the beautiful Marina Bay night view without compromising their dining experience.

The proposed colour palette was derived from F1’s rich history, mainly taking references from the vintage team car’s colour tones which were applied for a more comfortable interior aesthetic appeal.

The wall and floor finishes had an organic yet linear pattern and texture - inspired by the tyre marks branded into the asphalt of the F1 race track.

“The use of abstract cues inspired from the racecars’ speed and dynamic movement serves as a subtle allusion to making a mark at the F1 event.”

Dark and rich wood tones were chosen for the carpentry elements. They bring about a sophisticated and polished look, which is representative of the F1 sport’s timeless charm. Simple marble-like stone were also used on dining tabletops to cut through the edgy interiors. To draw more attention to the exterior’s exciting race in the pits, we created simpler and cleaner lines and structures on the ceiling and lighting.

Challenges

Due to the transient nature of the F1 event, it was necessary to propose materials and furnishings that were quick and convenient to be assembled and disassembled.

There was also physical limitation within the space to maximize occupancy use, which restricted creative freedom in modifying the floorplan layout. To overcome this physical constraint, we explored creating a different experience through an interesting mix of materials and colour palettes, which also effectively created an illusion of a bigger space.
