People First: Investing in BuildBuilt’s Talent
What is ‘success’?
Reaching beyond the climb of the corporate ladder? or the upward ticking of digits in your bank accounts? Shouldn’t success also encompass the vital elements that enrich our lives: passion, love, and relationships?
At BuildBuilt, we understand this expansive definition of success. We value our team’s well-being, each individuals unique and multifaceted growth, and the time they require outside of work, to invest in nurturing other passions, love, and relationships.
“You can earn more money, but when time is spent, it’s gone forever.” - Zig Ziglar
In line with this philosophy, we’ve launched an innovative Employee Shares Options Scheme (ESOS) – which we fondly refer to as ‘BB’s Designer Share Scheme’. On top of this, we have already introduced the concept of nearly annual sabbaticals! Our aim? To ensure that BuildBuilt not only builds interiors, but also builds a brighter future for its dedicated team members, our cherished BB’ers!
BB’s Designer Share Scheme
BuildBuilt’s ethos places people before profits. We realize that fulfilled BB’ers lead to satisfied clients and creative projects. By embedding strong values and principles in our culture, we are steering our organization in a direction where we see worth in everyone. From assigning ownership of projects, and encouraging flexible work arrangements, to promoting a balanced work-life, we aim to establish a fertile environment where BB’ers can thrive both professionally and personally.
BB’s Designer Share Scheme is an initiative specifically designed to give BB’ers ownership and recognition of their designs. We believe in the incredible value that our designers bring, and we want to reward them for their contributions. The designs they produce become part of a shared intellectual property agreement with the company, reflecting a partnership that honors both their creative contribution and the company's strategic objectives.
Under this program, our designers can establish their identities and subsidiaries under the BuildBuilt umbrella, giving them an outlet for their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. If they choose so, designers who want to continue to refine their craft can have the opportunity to create an offshoot brand that targets specific projects and client sectors.
In addition to owning part of the group and reaping the benefits of this subsidiary’s growth, this innovative program is designed to provide a sustainable career progression path. It solves an industry-wide challenge, offering a solution for designers as they navigate different life stages while simultaneously seeking professional advancement.
The Joy of Sabbaticals: Recharge and Rediscover
At BuildBuilt, we recognize the importance of work-life balance for our BB’ers’ overall well-being, creativity, and productivity. That’s why we’re implementing a systematic sabbatical program that will be granted once BB’ers reach certain milestones and targets (we’re crushing the typical definition of ‘sabbatical’, and we’re unapologetic about it).
After reaching specific revenue targets, BB’ers are eligible for a 30-day sabbatical, in addition to their annual leave. This provides them with an opportunity to recharge, focus on personal passions, and return to work with renewed vigor and inspiration. This tangible and rewarding goal is both realistic and attainable within a year.
“Finding myself in Mongolia after journeying from bustling Singapore, I was immersed in a deeply refreshing and eye-opening experience. As an interior designer at BuildBuilt, my days are typically awash in beauty surrounded with well-curated aesthetics. But here in the vastness of Mongolia and nature, I felt grounded and extremely humbled. The stay in a traditional tepee, a far cry from the plush and perfectly designed spaces I'm accustomed to, provided an unexpected reality check! Slowing down during this sabbatical was a luxury that I had almost forgotten. There were four days entirely off-grid - a strange yet liberating feeling. Even when connectivity sporadically returned to my phone, it didn’t reinstate the fast pace that normally dictates my life. This journey was not just a change in locale, but also a shift in rhythm, and in perspective. The contrast between the unyielding speed of the design world and the deliberate, tranquil pace of life in Mongolia was stark and, ultimately, profoundly rewarding.”
- Nadia, who recently returned from a sabbatical, and now resides in BuildBuilt’s Media Team and continues to explore interior design topics and processes.
BuildBuilt’s commitment to employee growth and well-being is setting the bar high for the industry. By prioritizing people over profits and offering diverse growth strategies and ownership opportunities, we aim to empower BB’ers to carve their career paths and build a future they truly desire.
