A Modern Kid Friendly 5-Room BTO With Limewashed Walls

Type: HDB BTO 5 Room | Location: Bedok, Singapore | Home to: 2 Adults + 2 Kids

Designer: Farrah Foo | Project Manager: Xiwen Ong

As a couple with 2 lovely kids and parents staying oftenly, Boyce and Blanche wanted their 5-room BTO to be a cosy place to unwind after work and a great place for their children and parents to play and rest.

With no certain preferences of the design, we designed and built the space based on the purpose of the home: to become a perfect place to relax and nurture a family. Thus, we chose the modern minimalist look with wooden texture and warm lighting. To improve the functionality, we utilised the small spaces around the house as storage areas.

A Large and Spacious Living Room For Kids To Play

Boyce and Blanche wanted to have a spacious and hindrance-free living room, so their children could have more floor area to play. We further maximised the storage by adding an integrated built-in storage that wraps around the household shelter that created a grand entrance effect.

Having a distance from the entrance keeps away privy neighbours, and provides a hotel-like foyer area for everyone to take off their shoes.

The TV feature wall was painted in limewash, and its organic textures gently illuminated by the various accent lights.

Open Concept Kitchen with Warm Look

Other than the living room, our clients also use the dining room to host guests and spend quality time with their family. The open concept kitchen welcomes airflow and movement, adding a more spacious vibe.

To instill good habits to their young ones, our clients requested to have a wash area in the yard so that their children can wash their feet before entering the rooms.

Our clients also appreciated the unique curved cove lighting around the house, as the warm white lighting gives out a cosier and relaxing ambience, especially after work.

The Spaces for Kids

We wanted to make the children’s room as comfortable as possible, with minimal built-in to ease up the renovation process later when they grow up.The two-tone laminate was added to add some textures alongside with the gender neutral limewash colours. Our ID suggested to add cute wardrobe and decorations the kids can play with.

Maximising the Space Further

With a total of 6 occupants, including the kids and elderly, BuildBuilt proposed more storage areas to be added in small spaces throughout the houses like the shoe storage around the foyer space and storages in the bathrooms.

Moving further, we also hacked down the wall between the kitchen and service area and instead added a transparent sliding door, so the lights can even fully permeate the space, even the closed and narrowest area.
